This is an old technique that uses a wax base as the painting medium. It is applied with heat, brushes, knives, scrapers, irons, etc... Possibly the best know contemporary artist who used this technique extensively is Jasper Johns. Stahl has come up with a uniquely new way of using wax in painting.
